Secure pc software is essential to protecting your computer, mobile device and your data from hackers. Hackers, also referred as cybercriminals, break into your computer for various reasons. They can steal, alter, or delete data that you value. Hackers have malicious intentions, unlike other thieves who may steal items to fulfill legitimate needs. They are most concerned with unauthorised access to sensitive information. This can happen before you even know that something isn’t right.
Passwords and passwords, as well as a virus protection program and firewalls are the three most important steps to secure your computer software. If you follow these basic best practices your computer will be less vulnerable to being hacked by hackers, malware or ransomware (software that encrypts your information and demands payment for unlocking it).
Change the name of the administrator account. Make sure to choose an effective password that has lower- and uppercase letters, numbers and computer symbols. Do not use a short password like 1234 as hackers are able to employ automated tools to crack easy-to-guess passwords in minutes.
Update your operating system and other programs. Most software updates include security patches that help guard against hacking. Install all patches and enable automatic updates when they are available to reduce the amount of time you’re at risk to intrusions.
If you own a laptop or another portable device, make sure the drive is encrypted when it’s not in use. This is particularly important for UF Students. You can enable encryption in Windows by opening Settings > Update and Security > Device encryption. This will make your internal drive, as well as the majority of external drives, including SD cards.
